Thumb surgery benches Thunder forward

Oklahoma City Thunder forward D.J. White underwent successful surgery Thursday to repair a broken right thumb but will the next miss six to eight weeks of the season, the club announced.

White, a first-round selection in the 2008 NBA Draft, suffered the injury during a Tuesday practice session. He missed most of his rookie season in the NBA after surgery to remove a benign growth from his jaw.

White averages 4.8 points and 1.9 rebounds for the Thunder. He played in only eight games this season and had not played in more than a month.

At 24-18, the Thunder are level with Utah for the final two playoff positions in the Western Conference.
