McGrady works out for Bulls in search of deal

NBA veteran Tracy McGrady worked out for the Chicago Bulls on Monday, the two-time scoring champion hopeful of landing a free agent deal with the club.

McGrady, a seven-time NBA All-Star, underwent microfracture surgery on his left knee 17 months ago and played only 30 games last season for Houston and New York, averaging only 8.2 points a contest.

The playmaker, who worked out for the Los Angeles Clippers last week, has also expressed interest in Miami, where superstar LeBron James and Chris Bosh have joined Dwyane Wade to make the Heat an instant NBA title contender.

McGrady said he wants to play a starting role with the Bulls but would not object to a reserve role, likely what the Bulls would have in mind for the 31-year-old swingman.

"I won't have a problem, but that's not what I'm really shooting for," said McGrady.

"If I was the player that I was in a Knicks uniform, I would have no problem coming off the bench, but I've worked extremely hard and I'm far from being that player."

The Bulls added Carlos Boozer to a solid core of young talent but hope to improve after first-round playoff exits the past two seasons.

"Without me, without Boozer, they're a .500 ball club," McGrady said of the Bulls. "And with the guys that they added, if they add me, I think we'll be 30 points better."
