Hawks fire coach after six seasons

ATLANTA (Reuters) - The Atlanta Hawks have fired coach Mike Woodson after six seasons, the NBA's official website said Friday.

Woodson was told he would not be offered a new contract, the website (www.nba.com) reported. An official announcement was expected later Friday.

Woodson's contract expired Monday so the Hawks needed to make a quick decision. He compiled a 206-286 record while leading the Hawks to the playoffs the last three seasons.

He was only 11-18 in the postseason, though. The Hawks were swept in four games by Orlando in the second round of this year's playoffs after beating Milwaukee in seven games in the opening round.
